DIY: High Waist Pleated Skirt

These skirts are easy and cheap. I've made a bunch out of scrapped fabric, bed skirts, and old sheets. If you wanna see more you can look at my upcoming fashion section.

What you'll need:

A SEWING MACHINE &

To determine how much fabric you need use the measuring tape to measure your waist line and double that. Do not measure where you want the skirt to be above your hips because you still have to wiggle it over those curvy hips and big butt. I found that out the hard way by ripping my first skirt.

I USED ABOUT A YARD OF FABRIC.

The bias tape is optional for this skirt I'm just going to sew up the hem but as seen on the blue skirt above I used bias tape for the hem line to add another color.

You can pin every two inches if it is easier for you but I found it less hassle to just eye the inch mark myself. To start take the end of your fabric and fold it over to the 2 inch mark and pin. Do this every 2 inches till the end of your fabric like below.

It should start to look like this.

When you're done it will look like this.

Next, you'll run it through your sewing machine.

After you've sewn the entire length sew the hem line with or without the bias tape.

Next fold fabric and sew together.

Now it's time to sew on the waistband. You want to make sure the waist band is inside the skirt and aligned with the top of your skirt. You can add pins but again I find it easier without because my machine doesn't like pins. This way I don't have to stop as much.

With the waistband you want to make sure you pull on on it from both side to make sure the elastic is stretching enough to fit the entire skirt.

After going all the way around bam you're done. Now you have a new skirt!
